Search Console history limit: why Google keeps 16 months and how to keep more

· Organiq · third-party facts carry source and date in the text

Google Search Console keeps 16 months of performance data: the limit was announced on January 8, 2018 ("you'll have 16 months of data") and applies to the report and the API. To keep more, export regularly or use a tool that stores it: Organiq syncs daily into its own database and, on the Starter and Agency plans, keeps it indefinitely.

How much history does Search Console keep?

16 months, in the Performance report and in the Search Analytics API. The source is the Google Search Central Blog of January 8, 2018, which introduced the new Search Console with "With the new report, you'll have 16 months of data" and justified the number by year-over-year comparison. In practice, every day the oldest day stops being queryable, and what was not exported before does not come back. The newest data arrives late: Search Console Help says "collected data should be available in 2-3 days" and that a newly added site can take "up to a week" to show data.

How do I keep Search Console data beyond 16 months?

Four paths. Export regularly: download the report tables (by query, page, country, device) every month and keep them; it works, but it depends on discipline, and Google's help warns that "Search Console stores top data rows and not all data rows". Build your own routine on the API: it returns "batches of 25,000 rows at a time" (Search Analytics API guide) within quotas of 1,200 queries per minute per site and per user (API limits, October 30, 2026); it needs a database and maintenance. Turn on the bulk data export to BigQuery: Search Console → Settings → Bulk data export sends daily tables to your Google Cloud project; it starts on the day you enable it, with no backfill ("If you want to see historical data that precedes your initial setup, use the Search Console API or the reports", Search Console Help), and "Data is subject to Google Cloud storage and query costs, but there is a free usage level". Use a tool that stores it: when you connect a property, Organiq imports the 16 months Google still has (up to D-3) and then syncs every day; GSC Wizard offers up to 10 years on "full storage" properties (gscwizard.com/pricing, October 30, 2026). What does Organiq store, and for how long?

Clicks, impressions, CTR and position by day, query, page, country and device for each connected property, plus daily GA4 sessions by source and Bing, if you grant those accesses. The sync runs once a day and goes up to D-3, the last day Google has consolidated. Queryable window per plan: Free, 90 days; Starter (US$ 9/month) and Agency (US$ 49/month), no limit from the connection date. The limit nobody gets around: the first import only reaches what Google still shows on the day you connect, so the sooner you connect, the longer the history. Frequently asked questions

Will Google raise the 16-month limit?

Nothing announced as of October 30, 2026. The limit has been the same since January 2018.

Can I recover data older than 16 months?

No. What was not exported or synced before it expired is not recoverable, neither through the API nor through Google support. Organiq keeps data from the day of connection onward.

Does exporting from the report give all rows?

Not necessarily: Google's help says Search Console stores the top rows, not all rows. Through the API, reads come in batches of 25,000 rows per call.

Does the Organiq Free plan keep history?

The Free plan lets you query 90 days and 1 property. Unlimited history belongs to the Starter and Agency plans; every new account gets 7 days of Starter without a card.

How long does the first import take?

Minutes for small sites; sites with millions of impressions take longer, because the import respects Google's API quotas. The dashboard shows progress and emails you when it is done.
